On January 21, 2016, Microsoft made another ten Xbox 360 games compatible, including The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. At Gamescom, Microsoft revealed it has plans to ensure "all future Xbox 360 Games with Gold titles will be playable on Xbox One.” On DecemMicrosoft made another sixteen Xbox 360 games compatible with Xbox One, including titles such as Halo: Reach, Fable III and Deus Ex: Human Revolution. The downloaded game is a repackaged version of the original that identifies itself as an Xbox One title to the console. Unlike the emulation of original Xbox games on the Xbox 360, the Xbox One does not require game modification, since it emulates an exact replica of its predecessor's environment – both hardware and software operating systems. Microsoft stated that publishers will only need to provide permission to the company to allow the repackaging, and they expect the list to grow significantly over time. Not all Xbox 360 games will be supported 104 Xbox 360 games were available for the feature's public launch on Novemwith Xbox One preview program members getting early access. As with Xbox One titles, if the game is installed using physical media, the disc is still required for validation purposes. A ported form of the game is downloaded automatically when a supported game is inserted, while digitally-purchased games will automatically appear for download in the user's library once available. Supported Xbox 360 games will run within an emulator and have access to certain Xbox One features, such as recording and broadcasting gameplay. Xbox 360 ĭuring Microsoft's E3 2015 press conference on June 15, 2015, Microsoft announced plans to introduce Xbox 360 backward compatibility on the Xbox One at no additional cost. Senior project management and planning director Albert Penello explained that Microsoft was considering a cloud gaming platform to enable backward compatibility, but he felt it would be "problematic" due to varying internet connection qualities. Xbox Live director of programming Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb suggested users could use the HDMI-in port on the console to pass an Xbox 360 or any other device with HDMI output through Xbox One. For $20 this was a decent buy, but not at full retail, there are better options in the $50-70 range. At its launch in November 2013, the Xbox One did not have native backward compatibility with original Xbox or Xbox 360 games. Overall, the headset is decent for an introductory or backup headset, but once you hear almost any other modern headset (or headphones for that matter), the quality of sound will leave you wanting. These sound and volume issues are worse when plugged directly into a controller (without stereo adapter) or audio device such as an iphone/audio out jack on a PC. Even at different volumes, the sound has a "distant" quality which is off-putting and makes immersion difficult. The natural EQ of the device is very scooped out and offers very little in the mid and mid-high ranges, leaving you with lots of bass and scratchy highs. Sound through the included stereo adapter is noticeably better than without it, but ultimately this is where the headset is lacking. Sound staging is adequate for a stereo headset, and directional sound is functional in an in-game environment. Mic monitoring is pretty much non-existent, if you touch the mic you can hear the monitoring, but you can't really hear yourself speaking since it's dialed so low some will appreciate this, some will hate it. The microphone has only moderate sensitivity, so if you're a soft speaker you may find yourself having to raise your voice. The headphone is not detachable, but is designed to rotate up into the headset assembly almost seamlessly, making it an option to just use them as normal headphones without being able to easily tell that it is a gaming headset. Headset cups are round on the exterior, but interior padding is oval shaped for a more natural fit on the inside. Headset is lightweight and comfortable enough for long gaming sessions, and not too much squeezing pressure on the head makes this a fair option for wearers of glasses. $20 headset all day, but you get what you pay for.
